This year has already been a write off for so many of us and we still have 5 months left. However, amidst all the doom and gloom, we decided to start planning our wedding. I know there is a lot of uncertainty around when normal weddings will be back to normal but, I am hoping that by October next year, things will have calmed down and be getting back to normal (fingers crossed).
We have been engaged now for over 2 years but, we have never been in a rush to get married. Also as we only recently moved into our own place in January, up until now the main focus, that has eaten into both our time and money had been the move. However, as lock down has, like for many, given us time to think and plan, we finally decided it was time to start the ball rolling. We are so excited to see our vision come to life. One that will be nontraditional, Gothic, dark and very us!
I plan to document the process of our wedding planning on my blog while also sharing what it is like to plan a wedding when chronically ill. There have already been times where I have felt overwhelmed by how much needs planning, have fallen down the Pinterest rabbit hole countless times and have made numerous lists and word documents to try and stay organised but, overall we have enjoyed the process so far and by some miracle, are way ahead of schedule. Due to Covid, many weddings have been postponed to next year, so i have been eager to book the important things early to avoid disappointment which so far have worked in our favour.
The path of wedding planning can be a treacherous one, especially when you are looking to do something a bit different. We were never going to have an all white affair with all the usual bells and whistles. It just wouldn’t be us! Most wedding magazines are filled with, in my eyes, unobtainable images of societies perfect bride but, personally i find a traditional style wedding to be a bit out dated and find that they lack the personality and uniqueness of couples today. Luckily, over a year ago now, i came across Rock and Roll Bride who throws the rule book out the window and embraces all the colours of the rainbow when it comes to showcasing unique and unusual weddings, from sparkles and unicorns to Gothic and romantic. She gives couples all the inspiration and information they need to plan a wedding that is completely theirs, not one that they are expected to have. I am so glad i came across her magazines and bought her book as she really makes the impossible seem possible.
Last week we decided to have an engagement shoot in the woods with a potential wedding photographer and it was the best decision we could have made! We wanted (surprise surprise) to do something a bit different than the norm and so had a Gothic-style shoot, in the woods not far from where we live in the late afternoon. We both dressed in black, took some pillar candles and some decorative light bulbs that i had made as well as a skull for a prop. The photographer was amazing and i have already booked her as our wedding photographer. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome and will be using one of the photos on our invitations.
I will let the images speak for themselves and share a few of my favourites! Ill be back soon 🙂
