Pandemic planning

This year if everything goes to plan, I will be getting married in exactly 8 months so it has given me something to be excited about. Planning a wedding amid a pandemic isn’t easy. When this year started and we were thrown into another lockdown, we had decided on our wedding in 2022 however, after speaking to our venue, we changed our mind. We would lose our deposit of 20% and the same date next year was going to be more expensive. We gathered that the other companies we had booked for catering, decor etc would have the same outcome so, our 2021 wedding was on.

We knew that January would be when our wedding planning would be kicked up a notch but, with shops closed and everyone told to stay at home, planning has proven to be tricky. I went into overdrive after speaking to the venue and in the days that followed, ordered extra decor, booked a photobooth, Dj and our wedding cake. I have really had to push the possibility of a micro wedding or no wedding at all to the back of my mind as when I think about it, I come to a standstill. Obviously, to us getting married is the most important thing but, when you are spending a lot of money to plan the wedding that you both want with family and friends, the thought of a very small wedding feels daunting. Our venue, catering and added extras are all based on the idea of having up to 80 people and the latter fills me with anxiety but, I have to keep going and think positive! Luckily, there is now a glimmer of light and our full wedding plans should hopefully be allowed by October ๐Ÿคž.

Looking for a dress when nothing is open is difficult, but looking for a none traditional dress for a curvier figure is just something else. Wedding dresses are traditionally white and there is website upon a website that caters for the traditional bride. As soon as you move away from the norm, searches are filled with stupidly priced dresses, dresses from outside of the Uk (with shipping fees) and a lot of uninspiring options for someone who wants something different. Luckily, my maid of honour loves scouring the internet and has been sending me some amazing options. Without her, I wouldn’t have found half of the dresses, shoes and accessories out there.

Luckily, the main parts of the day have all been booked, we are just gradually paying for it all, which is a task in itself ๐Ÿ˜† I knew that weddings weren’t cheap but, even when you aim to do a lot of bits yourself and choose a cheaper alternative, the total still keeps adding up. Thankfully, all of the vendors have been happy to allow us to break the payments up over the coming months rather than their originally proposed 3 lump sums.

Something that has been a real lifesaver when planning has been the discovery of an RSVP website. I didn’t even know it was a thing but, it has been a game-changer. No more countless pieces of paper and waiting for responses in the post. Plus I have been able to add all the information that guests may need to know such as local hotels, covid updates and venue information. The site is fully customizable and can be updated at any time plus, I can input confirmed guests onto an online table planner which comes included making everything just a little bit easier. I would highly recommend it and it only cost us a tenner!

Planning during these difficult times has been hard and not being able to meet up with the people that will be involved has been tricky but, we have managed to get a lot done without having to compromise too much. We just have the kitty gritty bits to sort out now so I’m feeling positive!

Thank you for reading ๐Ÿ˜˜

Hi Jodie, well done ๐Ÿ‘ I’m exhausted just reading everything you have accomplished! How you have managed to arrange so much in the past few months is incredible. I can’t even get through to British Gas! ๐Ÿ™„
The RSVP website sounds really good.
Would you mind sharing the name? A couple near me are planning to get married. I can’t wait to hear and see what type of wonderful and different dress you will choose, but I know it will be fabulous.
You take care and stay your awesome positive self, Lorraine xx
